Diveboard Mobile goes Opensource

by Ksso on December 13, 2011

It's been our intent from the start to make as much as we could from Diveboard opensource. We also wanted to be able to provide solid APIs to enable users/developers to build upon and innovate. With Diveboard mobile going opensource we're starting our journey in that direction. The project is far from mature but already lets you download your dives lists and detail to your mobile and browse them through a nice looking mobile interface. The application is built with PhoneGap and jQuery  Mobile, so although last sprint had us focus on the iPhone only implementation, Android is not far behind (missing a file downloader native plugin - I used to have it work on my Nexus One allright until that...

Diveboard feature updates : bugfixing !

by Ksso on December 09, 2011

As we have had a lot of feedback recently, we also uncovered many edge cases on minor functions. While we try to bring the best experience to the end user, there are always cases that had not been anticipated or that had never been encountered during the testing. So this week release is mainly about making sure those annoying error messages don't appear (often) on your screens !And, last but not least, we also improved the performances of the search, so give it a try !

We just pushed an update to production to support a few user requests.

Bulk assignment extended : you can now assign spots, buddies, gears and trip names to a selection of dives. Just select your dives and apply the corresponding action.

Support for a default gear set: in the bulk manager / My Gear you can now list your default gear and tag those you want added by default to every newly created dive.

Diveboard feature updates : direct link to pictures & performance

by Ksso on November 09, 2011

Small update this morning addressing performance issues, a small bug in the gear management api and a new feature : You can now get direct link to your each and every of your pictures and share it wherever you want. The link will open your logbook on the right page and show the targeted picture in the lightbox - isn't that convenient ?Of course if you share the link on Facebook or G+ the tags are adjusted so it is this image that gets displayed as thumbnail and you get the species info and notes of the picture not the dive - which makes sense.

Diveboard feature updates: Bulk Editor

by Ksso on November 07, 2011

This week bring a complete revamp of the bulk dive editor. This one has been pretty complicated, we wanted to let you easily apply values or bulk operations to existing dives... while lettign you easily sort through them and identify which is which. This sounds easy when you have 10 dives, but some of our users have over 200 dives !We finally came up with a UI that seems to be doing the job (although it still requires a bit of polishing imho)With easy show/hide details, sorting by many different columns focus on given fields... I hope you like what we've built ! This will also allow for more flexibility for upcoming updates while keeping core functions easily accessible.

Diveboard Feature Updates : new Home, Gear

by Ksso on October 28, 2011

This week's update is pretty exciting, finally a home-page that's both simple and elegent at explaining Diveboard. We probably tried telling a bit too much thus the previous homepage which didn't convey a simple message... Diveboard is your online logbook !We realized it's important we focus even more on what you guys need... thus we've been doing our best adding new features to the logbook. This week we added the Gear support. In the bulk editor, you'll find a gear section where you can list the gear you own along with the maintenance data... and when you log a dive just mark which gear you've used, we're track down their usage for you (so you won't end up in a bad situation as I did not...

Another incredible video today by Rafa Herrero Massieu. Titled "December" and filmed near Tenerife on the Canary Islands,

December is the prelude of winter gales. There is an odd tranquility, waters still warm and clear,People seems to keep away from the shore, the Ocean recovers its peace. And Life claims its space: the pelagos

The video shows up amongst others an incredible group of whales dancing together. Those huge animals, covered in a previous post, are peaceful to humans.

Gear review: TUSA gloves DG-5600

by Ksso on October 22, 2011

I've been diving without gloves for years. At a number of occasions I did regret not wearing some though... I still remember that dive in Cyprus in Amphorae's Cave where the drift was so strong I was basically hanging at the reef like a gecko. In those circumstances even if you take extra careful steps in where lay your hands... it would still feel more secure to wear a pair of gloves - there were a couple times where I remember my hand being unexpectedly close to urchin's spikes. As an underwater photographer, though, I need as much dexterity as I can on my fingers (tiny buttons to push/turn to set aperture and shutter...) so I ended up thinking gloves are not an option. This just changed...

Bing loves fish today

by Ksso on October 21, 2011

I don't usually use Bing, and bumped there by accident, still pretty fun to find a pretty usual fish for us, scuba divers, on the front page: a Blennie ! This particular one is a "Parablennius gattorugine" which can be seen in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.Fun fact about them, the female lay eggs in a safe place (usually a crack in the reef) during spring, and the male will keep them safe while hovering above the nest to ensure proper oxygenation of the water.
