Diver's Notes

Our checkout dive was at a dive site located about 3 minutes away from our dive centre, Octopus Dive Nusa Penida. We completed two dives today before checking in at Ring Sameton Resort Hotel, which is about 450 m away.

I felt a little cold when entering the water, but as we descended deeper, the temperature dropped to 25 °C.
We managed to spot two nurse sharks along the man-made reef. While we were cruising along the sloping reef, our dive master, Sofian, went deeper in search of big fish.

Suddenly, a surprise appeared — a medium-sized mola mola showed up at a depth of 35 m. We descended toward the fish, but when I reached 30.5 m, my dive computer alarm sounded. My decompression time showed 4 minutes remaining, so I stopped there and watched from a distance.

The other buddies continued deeper to around 40 m to see the mola. The mola mola was our main target for this trip, so it was incredibly lucky and surprising to encounter one so early on our very first dive.
